Narayanganj is one of the ancient cites situated in the central part of Bangladesh  on the bank of the Shitalakkha (which is the second largest river port in Bangladesh). It is only 16 Km away from the capital city of Dhaka. Narayanganj was named after Bicon Lal Panday leased the region in 1766 from British East India Company. The area of current Narayanganj District is about 684.37 Sq. Km. The weather is fairly moderate and the summer and winter are in the interval in the region. The average temperature of the district is 17.5° F. The amount of the annual average rainfall is 183 CM. The Geo position of the district is between 23°34’ to 24°15′ North Latitude and between 90°27′ to 90°59′ East Longitude. It is popularly known as the Dandy of East due to presence of a number of jute mills, garments trading and other businesses for many centuries. At present, it is playing a vital role for the growth of RMG sector and making enormous economic contribution to the national economy.
